Who we are

My name is Shelby, and I am the hands and brains behind Just Art By Shelbs! What started as hobby to keep me busy, has quickly grown into something much more. Not only has art always been an escape, now I can use that to build part of my life around.

I began sewing with my grandma when I was very little, and I even got a sewing machine from her for Christmas when I took my home-ec class in high school! Then I moved away for college, and that machine sat in it’s box for years. After graduating, moving home, and then getting my own apartment, I felt empty and like I needed something more to do... so I dug that old machine out and started sewing again!

Of course I can’t start with anything basic… I went all out and started making a quilt haha! Slowly I fell more and more in love with sewing and designing. I am a HUGE Mac Miller fan, and my first true design was making my own Blue Slide Quilt to match his first studio album, Blue Slide Park!

Ever since then, my love for sewing and designing has blossomed into so much more. Now, I make various small items, upcycled apparel, and I design Foundation Paper Piecing patterns. I do venture out and make other products sometimes, but I have found that this is what I love to continuously make.

I have also recently been investing my time into YouTube. I have been creating biweekly tutorials to help teach others how to not be afraid of their machines and just step out of their comfort zone! I also am starting biweekly LIVE shows, so check back for more updates!

Outside of my business, I am an Ohio native whose life revolves around the lake! I love to be active, and I am most passionate about CrossFit and kayaking.

I have many items or patterns that rotate through my shop inspired by the things I love the most.
